Polamalu update.
Good news Steeler fans, Troy Polamalu is recovering well from his knee injury from the first game in September. He attended practice again yesterday. Last week his goal in practice was straight line running, and he did pretty well. Yesterday he wore a knee brace he was able to do a little more. Coach Mike Tomlin says he’s shaping up and looking good, BUT he won’t be put into a game just yet. Right now the prediction stands that he will be playing in week 6 against the Cleveland Browns.
Lets just hope all continues to go well with his recovery. Then I will be able to see my favorite player who me and my mom have nickenamed “Hair” play again.
If you want to know why we call him “Hair” check this out:)
RIP Tony Fein
It’s a sad time for the players of the Baltimore Ravens. During the preseason they were priviledge to play football with an Iraq war veteran and rookie linebacker Tony Fein.
He was found the morning after staying at a friends house by his hosts unresponsive and vomiting. 911 was called immediately and he was transported to Harrison Medical Center. Unfortunately on the way there he went into cardiac arrest and was not able to be revived. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
It is still a mystery as to what the cause of death is. His hosts have said they do not know of anything out of the normal their guest did in his final hours. There will be toxicology report and a biopsy performed as well as some other tests, before the cause of death is released.
Week 5 Picks
Yay! Another week of football is coming. It doesn’t seem like Sunday comes fast enough, but that might be ok since Monday follows:)
Well this week Poppop and I will have more of a competition. We only have 7 of the 14 games the same this time around.
The 7 games we picked the same on are the Giants against the Raiders, the Redskins over the Panthers. We also think the Cardinals will be the Texans, and the Falcons will fly to a victory over the 49ers.
We think the Cowboys will beat the Chiefs, the Jets will beat the Dolphins. And for the game most important to me we are predicting the Steelers will win over the Lions since the Lions aren’t the greatest team and since the Steelers won last week boosting their spirits after 2 straight losses.
The rest of the games we didn’t agree on. For the Bengals at the Ravens I picked the Bengals while Pop has chosen to side with the Ravens. Pop also picked the Bills over the Browns, I think he’s going to loose that game. I also think his pick of the Buccaneers over the Eagles is going to give me the winning team since I picked the Eagles. I may not like Michael Vick playing for them but they do have a better team this season than the Bucs do.
Since it’s Brett Favre’s birthday is Saturday I think he will wait to celebrate Sunday after they win against the Rams, however Poppop thinks the Rams are going to win. I think I have the better pick for the Colts game against the Titans since I picked the Colts and the Titans haven’t gotten their act together yet this season. I really don’t know how the Jaguars @ Seahawks game will play to whose favor I picked the Seahawks and Pop picked the Jaguars since both teams are so-so it will be interesting to see who wins.
The biggest game we have with different teams is the game between the Patriots and the Broncos. So far this season the Broncos are undefeated and the Patriots only have one loss, so this will definately be the game to watch. The Patriots know how to play well, but are they good enough to take down an undefeated team? I think so, we’ll see if I’m wrong.
Youngin in the lead
Week 4 has come to an end and I won, looks like I know my stuff.
On the teams Poppop and I picked the same, we were right on. We only missed one and that was the Titans game verse the Jaguars. We thought the Titans were going to be as good as they were last year but I guess they just aren’t the same team this year.
Of the four games Poppop and I differed on I picked the winners. The Redskins beat the Bucs 16-13, and the Texans beat the Raiders 29-6. The Saints took a victory over the Jets 24-10 and the Dolphins were able to sweat through the unreasonably warm heat in Florida to win the game over the Bills, final score was a whopping 38-10.
The Rams took a zero for their performance this week and making the 35 points the 49ers earn push them straight to the victory. The Patriots beat the Ravens as predicited, 27-21 being the final score. The prediction of Denver winning was a good assumption since they have been playing well this year. They beat the Cowboys 17-10. The Bengals took victory over the Browns 23-20.
The Giants were living large with their victory over the Chiefs with a final score of 27-16. The Cotls stomped the Seahawks 34-17. The Bears ripped the Lions to shreds 48-24 the week after their first victory in 19 games so was the win last week a fluke? The season should tell.
Brett Favre led the Vikings to a victory over his former team the Green Bay Packers giving him an extra reason to celebrate his birthday on the 10th.
The Steelers, my favorite team, were able to pull of a much need victory to boost the teams morale. The final score was 38-28 over the SanDiego Chargers. Rashard Mendenhall, the fill in for running back Willie Parker showed the Steelers fans he could rush with the best of them. Now the only problem is whether or not he will get to start when Willie Parker comes back from his injury. It will be interesting to see how the decision falls.
Week 4 Forecast
My grandpa, whom I refer to as Poppop, received his list I made him for the 2009 NFL season and he called me with his week 4 picks. I was surprised that we picked the same team on 10 out of the 14 games this week.
Our differences are on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers game against the Washington Redskins. I picked the Redskins considering they have won 1 game and lost 2 and the Bucs have lost all 3 games they have played in this season.
We also differ on the Oakland Raiders game, who are playing the Houston Texans. I think this will be a close one both teams have won 1 and lost 2 but I picked the Texans, whereas Poppop picked the Raiders.
For the Miami Dolphins vs. the Buffalo Bills, I choose the Dolphins. Not sure it that was the best pick but I picked them before their quarterback, Chad Pennington, took a horrible shoulder injury that will put him out for the rest of the season. My originally theory was they are up against a team that has close to the same stats and they would be in their home stadium with their fans rooting them on.
The last difference in the teams between me and Poppop is the New York Jets against the New Orleans Saints. I predict this will be a good game since both teams have won all 3 games they have played this season. I picked the Saints, and Poppop picked the Jets.
For the rest of the games this week we agreed. We think the New England Patriots will be the Baltimore Ravens. The New York Giants are predicted to win against the Kansas City Chiefs, as well as the Tennessee Titans against the Jacksonville Jaguars. We believe the Cincinnati Bengals will lead over the Cleveland Browns.
The Detroit Lions will run from the victory of the Chicago Bears, and the Seattle Seahawks will get trampled by the Indianapolis Colts. We both think the Denver Broncos will take the Dallas Cowboys for a good ride into defeat, while they add to another victory to their undefeated season.
We picked the Pittsburgh Steelers over the San Diego Chargers, and the San Fransisco 49ers over the St Louis Rams. Lastly for the Monday night game we picked the Minnesota Vikings to win against the Green Bay Packers. It will be the first time this season Brett Favre will face his old team, should make for an interesting game.
I have not really talked to Pop about whether he wants to do a bet or some sort of prize for whoever gets the most wins. He ill be visiting me in about a week maybe we will decided then, I will definitely let you know if the stakes get raised.
Absence of my Girly View
So I finally am back online. Last week my family had an emergency and we had to take a small road trip, and since I don’t have a wireless card for my computer I couldn’t bring my blogging world with me. And to make matters worse we had no phone lines or internet connections at home this weekend. It really couldn’t have been at a worse time but I hear it’s was serviced today so I’ll find out tonight after my evening class if that’s true, I’m writing from work now…shhhh!!! Don’t tell:) The week 2 review and week 3 review is coming up later tonight if everything works properly.
Rainy Day in Chicago
The Pittsburgh Steelers are in Chicago, and the rain is falling. This will make for a dirty game, the away jerseys are going to need a good washing when they get home.
I will bring you an update when all the games have been completed for week 2. In the meantime I just wanted to let you know what I’ve been working on. During my journalism class this past Tuesday my professor was looking for a more unique approach to my blog. Something not many other people have. A week by week bet on each NFL game with my grandfather whom I lovingly call PopPop. I finished a list to mail to him as he is not technically advanced, so by the time snail mail gets the list to him and he gets it back to me it should be in time for week 4 so we will have 13 weeks to see who is better at picking the winners. 60 something year old man or 20 something young lady? We will see:)
Week 1 Wrap-up
The favorite team for Harry Connick Jr, who opened the season with the national anthem, the New Orleans Saints won the game against the Detroit Lions. Final score 45-27
The Denver Broncos won with a play in the last few minutes against the Cincinnati Bengals. Final score 12-7
The Miami Dolphins did not start the season off as well as they were hoping to they lost to the Atlanta Falcons 19-7.
The Vikings won against the Browns 34-20 led by the only quarterback who is going to be playing on the field in his walker, Brett Favre.
The Jets are surviving this year without Favre, who was their quarterback last year. Rex Ryan was a key to the 24-7 victory against the Houston Texans.
The Ravens started the season of right with a last minute touchdown to beat the Chiefs, final score 39-24.
McNabb, quarterback for the Eagles, didn’t win without a little pain. He left the game with a cracked rib after scoring a 3 yard touchdown. The Eagles took the victory against the Panthers 38-10.
Peyton Manning won his 118th game as quarterback. The latest victory for the Colts was against the Jaguars the score was close though 14-12.
Peyton’s brother Eli Manning was on top of his game as well. He led the New York Giants to a 23-17 victory against the Washington Redskins.
Jessica Simpson’s ex-boyfriend, Tony Romo led the Dallas Cowboys to a 34-21 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Superbowl XLIII underdogs the Cardinals lost the first game of the season to the 49ers, the final score was 20-16. Four points from the victory just like the Superbowl.
The poorest score came from the St. Louis Rams. They didn’t score at all against the Seahawks. It was an easy victory for the Seahawks 28-0.
The “cheeseheads” in Wisconsin were happy with the results of the game they got to see. The Packers beat the Bears with a fourth quarterback touchdown to give them the score of 21-15.
The Bills and the Patriots had a close game ending with a 1 point loss for Bills the final score was 24-25.
Chargers and Raiders are two good teams that kept each other going for a good game but in the end the Chargers took the victory with a score of 24-20.
If you didn’t see the post on the opening night, the first game was a victory for the Pittsburgh Steelers over the Tennessee Titans.
2009 Opening Night In Pittsburgh PA
The Blackeyed Peas got the 2009 football season off to a great start with their high energy positive song “I gotta feeling”. And I must say it was a good good night for Pittsburgh. I was up until after 12 for this game even though I had to be at work the next morning. All the back and forth with the two teams was so exhilarating from Hines Ward’s fumble a few feet from the endzone to the moment it was called they would have to enter overtime. My heart did not stop pounding ’til it was over. In the end the Pittsburgh Steelers did get the victory in overtime with a field goal.
Unfortunately during the first half the Steelers lost one of the best defensive players on the field Troy Polamalu. Sadly this loss is speculated to be a part of the Madden curse. If you haven’t seen it yet, the Madden 2010 video game cover has Polamalu and Larry Fitzgerald of the Arizona Cardinals two key players in the 2009 Superbowl.
Michael Vick animal activist?
Yes you read right. That animal abuser is now an activist to stop animal cruelty and abuse. Let’s just hope he takes it seriously now that he is out of jail and playing football again.
The Philadelphia Eagles quaterback will be speaking to a group of high school students in the Hunginton Park area. He will be joined by Wayne Pacelle, who just so happens to be the CEO and president for the Humane Society of the United States. Hopefully the kids will appreciate what Vick has to say, and not second guess his motivation for the appearance as I do.
